I often write out content while on flights, it’s when I feel most inspired either with the excitement of an upcoming adventure or a warm heart filled with beautiful memories from an adventure that’s come to a close.
I sit here next to a nice Welsh man who shared his cookies and pretzels with me while he turns caffeine into code on his laptop. Out my window is the beautiful full super moon sharing the clouds with me over Iceland, and across the aisle I can see the sun setting through the other window. I can feel the intense magical energy being parallel with the sun and the moon above earth.
I have always been the type to think about where I was in my life at this time of year last year. I’m a very reflective person, it helps me to be grateful for how far I have come and how much I have grown.
A year ago, I was living single life full force, no interest in a relationship, my sights were set on starting a year of travel in 2017. I had big plans of the places I would go, and somehow I managed to make most of those places happen this year, as well as many more unexpected ones. That’s where life feels truly magical to me, when the unexpected happens and it’s better than the original plan.
I knew I would be moving away from Medicine Hat after the majority of my trips wrapped up in 2017, I had no real plans as to where, I was open to anything. I played around with the ideas of maybe Calgary, Edmonton, BC, east or west coast Canada. My free spirit was going to take me somewhere wonderful I just didn’t know where.
All I knew was that I wasn’t going to settle for anything less than extraordinary. I was going to chase passion, magic and happiness and I would just do me and not pay attention to how others thought I should be living my life.
What that has gotten me is a lot of wild stories, heart warming memories, friends from all over the globe, and a passionate love story which has been far from ordinary.
A year and a half ago I asked myself, “why not more?” I felt like I was destined for extraordinary, and I was only living in mediocrity. There was a world out there for me to see, there were people out there to meet, and I knew that I had to make some wild changes in order to make it happen.
And so I did. I didn’t look back. It was messy, there was a lot of falling down and getting back up. I made a lot of sacrifices. Now I live a life of magic, passion and adventure.
We can live our entire lives playing it safe.
We can live our entire lives wondering about what else there is out there for us.
We can live our entire lives doing the ordinary, doing what is expected of us.
Or, we can light a match, set our lives on fire, watch it burn and start it over living true to ourselves and what we want deep down to our core.
This is your life.
What do you want?
Now go make it yours.
